Music
Looking back, I think the piano has quietly changed the way I see the world. It taught me that beauty doesn’t always exist in the loudest moments, but in the quiet spaces where someone chooses to pay attention. For someone who has been so loud and energetic their whole life, this is sure to be a great improvement, in my opinion.
One of my least favorite sounds growing up wasn't a wrong note.
It was the silence that came after it.
That split second when my fingers froze above the keys because I couldn't allow myself to continue practicing the song with mistakes in it (literally every pianist trait ever!). To five-year-old me, that silence meant I had messed up. It meant I had to redo everything again in pitifulness and rage.
So for years, I played as if I were outrunning it.
